  9. PLEASE CLARIFY!! In the book for turkey chili it says 2 cups for one portion BUT in this 7 day makeover you say 1 1/2 cups. Which is correct as i’ve been on this plan for 6 months plus and have been using 2 cups as suggested in book.

  12. I just came across this and was so excited to happen upon it online. I saw the 2/17 date and thought it was a sign and meant to be because I came across the day before but…. then it said it was closed. It is so disappointing to see promotions in multiple places for this online (eg Dr Oz) with reference only to the 2/17 start date, only to find I am too late. It was perfect timing – or so I thought! I would be so very grateful if I could participate.

    • Hi Lisa. It’s in the cookbook (page 136 in my copy). We’re using the chicken leftover from yesterday’s Lemon Mustard Pepper Chicken.

    • Xylitol is almost always from corn or birch (sometimes called hardwood). It’s the birch/hardwood one you’re looking for.

  49. Hi, I purchased the book. My daughter, Mom, and myself started the program on the 17th. I have a question about the ingredients in the reciepes…… Do you have to utilize all the ingredients (ie. onions, dill, shallots, garlic,) just to name a few. Are they for taste or they are needs as a combination of the foods to lose the weight? I do not care for some of the items and am having a very hard time eating them.

    • Hi Monica. You can make substitutions in the recipes. If there are veggies you don’t like, you can substitute other phase-specific vegetables. Same with the spices — you can alter then as you like.

  50. I am on day 3, Phase 2 of the diet. I am vegan but decided to try eggs for the 28 days. As it turns out, I can’t do eggs 6 times a day for 2 days straight. It made me queasy. So today I did egg whites with veggies in the morning and have been eating tempeh and tofu (organic) for snack, lunch and another snack. It’s tricky. I keep wanting to grab a piece of fruit. It feels unbalanced but I understand what’s behind it. I know it’s just for 2 days. I’m looking forward to Phase 3!

    • Hi Karen. I am also vegan. Phase 2 is harder for us, but it’s only two days. And it’s typically where I lose the most weight, so I try to keep that in my head :)

  51. With Lent coming up, this is a day of fasting (but one medium size meal and 2 snacks are allowed but the 2 snacks cannot total a meal). This lands on a phase 2 day (Wed). Does Haylie have any recommendations on how to do this while on this plan without causing too much disruption? This will be my 3rd week on the plan.

  52. Hi, I got all the info! Thank you very much! This is actually day 6 for me and i’m down 4 lbs, even going out twice and being careful! Just have a couple questions if you don’t mind…Do you have to eat all the components (protein, grain, fruit, fat) together? Say on phase 3 I don’t have fruit with breakfast, can I have the fruit with my snack? It says you can eat veggies anytime, but it also says to leave time in between meals? Should you eat everything when it says to, or can you space it out and move it around? Thanks for your help!

    • Hi Diane. Yes, you are supposed to consume all of the requirements at the same meal. It’s better not to start changing them, since Haylie specifically designed that pattern. As for veggies, yes — you can also have them between meals.

  53. Hi Christine/Haylie, I’m trying to find an answer.. I began week 3 today and when I started FMD my goal was 20+ pounds to lose. Now I find that I am in the <20 # to lose category. Should I change my portions from 1.5 to 1? I just want to make sure I don't keep the same plan for the 4 weeks. I don't want to eat too much (or too little!) I've been following this as perfectly as possible! Thanks for any feedback.

    • Hi Kerri. That’s great! Now that you are below that 20-pound weight loss goal, you can drop your portions down to the standard portion. Keep eating those veggies, though. Good luck!

  54. Can we do this again with new recipes and snacks?? It was a great motivator to stay on track knowing so many others were doing the same diet. thank you for the work you put into this and for making it available to those of us who did not get the e-mails.

  55. Hi. Still not losing and still discouraged–actually a lot more discouraged. I am cooking for a friend, so she can do the diet. She’s lost 5+ pounds, so that is the good news. I started a private Facebook group for 20 friends who are on, or who have done the diet in the past, so I have a good support system. I have enjoyed the cooking, and the recipes are wonderful. The only reason I haven’t given up at this point, is that I don’t feel deprived in any way. The only thing difficult about the diet is that it is time consuming and it takes over one’s whole life….which would be OK if I’f lost weight. Have you ever had someone not lose a pound and actually gain a little…..in the first week and a half????

    • Hi Chris. Did you have your labs done? When Haylie has clients that aren’t losing, that is the first thing she does. She tells us that when her clients aren’t losing at all, she first looks at hormones, and also tests for heavy metal exposure. So you might ask your doctor to work with you on those to see if you can find out why this isn’t working for you. For some people, it takes more time to kick in – if you’ve only been on the diet for 10 days, I would give it a little more time.

  56. How much ground flax seed I can put in my Phase 3 smoothie? I have the kindle version of both books, and a search has netted me nothing.

  57. Hi I bought the book and it says to double my portion if more than 40 pounds? So I am trying to understand if I have 6 ounces will that be for each meal on that day or for the whole day?

    • Hi Gina. Try sticking with 1 1/2 portions for now. That’s proving to be the right amount of food, even if you have more than 40 pounds. Double portions (which would mean 8 ounces of protein at each meal) is a lot. So 6 ounces of protein (9 oz of fish) for each of your meals would be correct.
